The Reports screen is divided into a report selection column, a report preview panel, a report information panel, and the Run report button.
These areas are used together to select a report, review what it produces, and generate the required output.
Report selection column
The report selection column is located on the left side of the Reports screen.
Reports are grouped into categories, including:
Staff
Pays
Tax
Super
KPI
Audit
Selecting a category expands it and displays the reports available within that category.
Selecting an individual report updates the report preview and information shown to the right.
The reports available within a category can vary depending on the payroll jurisdiction.
Report preview panel
The report preview panel is displayed in the upper part of the main working area.
When a report is selected, this panel displays an example of the type of output the report produces, where an example is available.
Report information panel
The report information panel is displayed below the report preview panel.
When a report is selected, this panel provides information about the report, such as:
what information it produces
whether it relates to a payroll batch or date range
any other relevant information about the report or its output
The information displayed changes to match the currently selected report.
Run report button
The Run report button is located below the report selection column.
After selecting a report, it can be used to begin generating that report.
A report can also be started by:
double-clicking the report name
clicking the report preview image, where available
Some reports require additional options before they can be generated. These options are determined by the selected report and can include items such as a payroll batch, date range, or other report-specific selections.
Other reports do not require additional selections and generate their output immediately.
Report output
The output produced depends on the selected report.
Reports that produce a PDF open in SmoothPay's internal PDF viewer. Where available, the PDF can also be exported from the viewer to produce a spreadsheet version.
For more information about how the internal PDF viewer works, refer to:
<Internal PDF viewer>
Some reports are designed specifically as spreadsheet exports. These reports download the spreadsheet directly and do not also produce a PDF.
